Duke. ❤️

This painting was a commission for the loveliest human and ceramic artist, Ann Bolin, created to honor her most beloved little man. Duke was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer, hemangiosarcoma (sadly, the same cancer I lost two of my own dogs to). Ann and Chris were blessed with more time together with Duke than they expected, but nothing truly prepares you for the heartache of losing your furry little soulmate.

As someone who absolutely adores dogs (and adores Ann), it was a huge honor to do this painting for her. The symbol at the top right is a bonji, a sacred Sanskrit seed syllable from esoteric Buddhism. This particular bonji calls on Kannon, the bodhisattva of Mercy and Compassion, to watch over Duke. Kannon exists to answer suffering with boundless love, appearing in whatever form is needed to reach those who need her. May she watch over Duke in the realm beyond. ❤️✨
